How this works

Type the jumbled letters into the Letters field and press Unscramble. The Word Unscrambler checks every word in its dictionary and keeps the ones you can spell using only the letters you entered, each no more often than you typed it. Results are grouped by length, starting with the longest words, and a group is marked “uses all letters” when its words are full anagrams of your input.

Enter a question mark (?) for a letter you don’t know or a blank tile. The wildcard can stand for any letter, so TE? finds ATE, EAT and TEA. You can enter up to 15 letters, which covers a full Scrabble board row as well as long anagram and jumble puzzles.

Two optional filters narrow long lists. Must contain keeps only words that include every letter you list there, for example an S to hook onto a word already on the board. Word length keeps only words of exactly that many letters, which helps with jumbles and crossword clues where you know the answer length.

The unscrambler uses the ENABLE word list, a public-domain dictionary of about 172,000 words used by many word game tools. When one length has more than 200 matches, the first 200 alphabetically are shown along with the total count; add a filter to see the rest.

Letters: LISTEN

6 letters (uses all letters): ELINTS, ENLIST, INLETS, LISTEN, SILENT, TINSEL

Six letters give 90 words in total. The longest group shows every full anagram, so you can spot all six rearrangements at a glance before scrolling to the shorter words.

Letters: RATINGS, word length 7

7 letters (uses all letters): GASTRIN, GRATINS, RATINGS, STARING

Setting the word length to 7 hides the 172 shorter words and leaves just the four full anagrams, which is handy when solving a jumble or looking for a Scrabble bingo.

Tips for using the Word Unscrambler

  • Start with the longest group. Full anagrams that use every letter are usually the answer to a jumble or the highest-scoring play.
  • Use ? for blank tiles or for letters you can borrow from the board. Each ? matches exactly one letter.
  • Use Must contain to find words that include a letter already on the board, so you can build through it.
  • If a group says it is showing 200 of more words, add a length or Must contain filter to see the rest.
